Ingles made his first national team in 2007and would soon make his Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Games.

Following Beijing he headed to Spain where he lined up for CB Granada before moving to Barcelona. He was a starter for the Australian side at the 2010 World Championships. He went on to compete at his second Olympic competition at the London 2012 Games. With Australia losing their opening two preliminary matches to Brazil and Spain, they went on to defeat China, hosts Great Britain and Russia to set up a quarter-final match against the USA. The Australians went down 119-86 to the eventual gold medallists to finish seventh.

A season at Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel was followed by a move to the Utah Jazz in the NBA where he has played since 2014.

He returned to compete at his third Olympic Games in Rio 2016 where Australia went in search of a historic first Olympic men’s basketball medal. The Australian side began the competition with wins over medal contenders France and Serbia. A close loss to the USA was backed up by strong wins over China and Venezuela to see the side finish their group in second. They eased past Lithuania in the quarter-finals before going down to Serbia 87-61 in the semi-finals. The result set up a bronze medal clash with Spain which went down to the wire. Australia again missed a medal by the barest of margins as the Spanish scored two free throws with just over 5 seconds remaining to take the final position on the Rio podium.

Ingles averaged 7.8 points, 3.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds in just under 27 minutes a game in Rio.
