10 Beijing medallists stripped for doping

IOC: The International Olympic Committee has stripped 10 athletes of medals from the 2008 Beijing Olympics after banned substances were found during retests of samples from the games.

The IOC says the 10, nine of whom hail from former Soviet nations, had all tested positive for various steroids.

No gold medallists were among the 10, though there were three silver medallists from weightlifting and wrestling.

Track and field was also hit, with Greek triple jumper Chrysopigi Devetzi and Ukrainian pole vaulter Denys Yurchenko losing their bronze medals.

Six more athletes who did not win medals in 2008 were retrospectively disqualified, including Russia's Elena Slesarenko, who was the women's high jump gold medallist in 2004 but placed fourth four years later.

Aussie Olympians join largest IAF meeting for global sporting change

The International Athlete’s Forum (IAF) recently brought together 350 athletes from across 185 countries, including several Australian Olympians. Steven Hooker, Daniel Kowalski, James Tomkins, Natalie Cook, Michelle Ford, Natalie Galea, Jennifer Screen and Kenny Wallace all participated and had their voices heard in the largest ever meeting of worldwide athletic representatives.
