Aussie Team welcome Martin, Hawk and Smith to YOG Village

10 October 2018

BUENOS AIRES 2018: The Australian Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) team played host to some sporting royalty this week, welcoming  BMX Freestyle World Champion Logan Martin, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and Dream Team basketballer Steve Smith.

With BMX Freestyle, Skateboarding and 3x3 Basketball making their Summer Olympics debut in Tokyo 2020, Olympic fans will get to experience the atmosphere and energy of these sports on the Olympic stage for the very first time.

24 year-old Martin, who won the BMX Freestyle World Championship in November 2017 was just as keen to spend time exploring the village and getting to know our Aussie Youth Olympians.

"Checking out the athlete village, is really cool to see," he said.

"Obviously, I've never been to an Olympic event, so it's all new to me as well, but we're going to have an amazing time and I can't wait."

While in Argentina, Martin treated Buenos Aires to a Freestyle run, gathering an excited crowd.

"The crowd was absolutely insane. The scene here is really big so they were really enjoying what they were watching, getting loud and creating such a good atmosphere," he said.

Just like the young athletes at Buenos Aires, Martin is also working on his own first-time Olympic bid, in preparation for Freestyle BMX's debut at Tokyo 2020 in less than two years.

"Getting to the Olympics is going to be a journey in itself, but I'm sure once it comes around and everyone is out on the course performing in front of the Olympic fans, it's going to be unreal. I'm sure the crowds will really enjoy it!
