Kendall Brodie's #OlympicTakeover

12 June 2019

ROWING: Kendall Brodie made history as the first female to cox an Australian Men’s Eight team at the World Rowing Cups.

She coxed the Men's Eight to a silver medal at the 2018 World Rowing Cup 3 and the World Rowing Championships, before becoming the first female to win the Australian King’s Cup, when she coxed NSW to gold at the 2019 Interstate Regatta.

Now, the 27-year-old is hunting down an Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

However, prior to February 2017, the prospect of representing her country at the Olympic Games in a men’s rowing crew was only a pipe dream, as women were not able to cox a men’s boat.

That changed in early 2017 when World Rowing changed their rules to allow the coxswain in any boat to be gender neutral. After a vigorous selection process, Brodie was announced as the national men’s eight cox in early 2018 and hasn’t looked back.

So what does a day in the life look like for a petite 53kg coxswain who heads a boat filled with eight burly men?

Kendall recently took over the @AUSOlympicTeam Instagram story to show us…
