Lausanne to host 2020 Winter Youth Olympics

31 July 2015

IOC: The 2020 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will be conducted at the home of the Olympic Movement, Lausanne, Switzerland.

Members attending the 128th Session of the IOC in Kuala Lumpur voted in favour of Lausanne ahead of the Romanian city of Brasov.

The successful bid team declared “in 1915 we said welcome to the Olympic Movement now we want to say welcome to the youth of the world in 2020”.

“It will create dreams and aspirations amongst young athletes” by staging the event at the home of the Movement.

Tennis great, Roger Federer, supported the Lausanne bid via a video message played to the IOC Session.

Brasov has a long history in winter sport, having hosted the 2013 Winter Festival for European nations. “Our bid has 100% support of the people and the Romanian Government” they said.
