On 17 October NSW Olympians ‘packed the house’ at the wonderful Billich Gallery to celebrate some significant milestones - the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the 30th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Summer Games and the Sarajevo Winter Olympics, the 20th Anniversary of the Lillehammer Winter Games and the 10th Anniversary of the Athens Summer Games. It was also great to welcome athletes from the Sochi Winter Olympic Games to the club

In October, the OCWA hosted an event in conjunction with the Chetkovich Cup in Perth, a team event featuring performances from all 7 disciplines of gymnastics over a single night.  Olympians Club members and their families were treated to a gymnastics spectacular, including the showcasing of 4 WA Olympians: Lauren Mitchell, Olivia Vivian, Emily Little and Janine Murray.

The 2014 OCWA Christmas lunch and AGM was held on 30 November.  The event was attended by 78 people, 44 of which were Olympians who between them have attended 89 Games, with representation from every summer games since 1956. It was a festive occasion, M.C.’d by WA Olympians Allana Slater and Jesse Phillips, filled with interviews, raffles and a delicious buffet Christmas lunch to satisfy everyone’s appetite. The raffle proceeds of $860 were again donated to Mission Australia’s Perth Christmas Lunch in the Park for the disadvantaged.

OCV Gala Dinner – November 21, 2014

The annual dinner, held at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, was another great success with in excess of 500 in attendance to celebrate reunion’s ending in the number 4.

We were able to introduce many of our 2014 Australian Olympic Winter Team members including the winners of the Most Outstanding Male and Female Performances from the Games, Lydia Lassila OAM and David Morris, and the Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman.

It was particularly pleasing to be able to welcome Ray Weinberg (1948-1952 Athletics), Lindsay Gaze who started his Olympic journey in the exhibition Aussie Rules Game in 1956 before becoming a legend of Basketball, and former Governor of Victoria and dual Olympian, John Landy.

The dinner gave us the opportunity to fondly farewell and thank Gill Brewster who had recently resigned as Executive Director of the VOC and Secretary of the Olympians Club of Victoria. A presentation was made to Gill in recognition of seven great years of involvement.

On 4th December 25 ACT Olympians gathered at the Ha Ha Bar in Belconnen for a cocktail Christmas function. It was a very successful evening and with Olympians from all areas attending. Following the success of this event the ACT Olympians Club will be arranging events in 2015 – keep an eye out for information.
